The Z1 is freedom from the status quo. Step outside enduro's obsession with counting seconds and go have some fun in the woods. The Z1 is an aggressive all-mountain and enduro fork with a different viewpoint for riders' priorities. Everyone wants suspension performance that's smooth as butter with great traction and control, and that's where the Z1 shines. After that, the Z1 departs from industry norms. More time fiddling with adjustments means less time shredding the trails. The Z1 keeps it simple with intuitive compression sweep adjustment, from locked out to full open. Simple rebound adjustment covers the range from fast to slow rebound for a full range of rider weights and preferences without overcomplicating things. Plus, it's biased towards stiffness, ride performance and durability, so while it's carrying a few extra grams, you probably won't notice because you're having too much fun.
When I bought this fork in October I was slightly skeptical due to the price and lack of adjustment. But this fork is absolutely amazing! It's incredibly smooth and stiff, and the fork hasn't shown any signs of wear and tear. I haven't found any disappointment with the sweep adjuster either. It's the perfect amount of adjustment for me. If you don't fool around with adjustments that often and you're looking for a big hitting fork that can handle basically everything, this is the one to get.
This is really good suspension. I've ridden on the fox factory 36 and it's almost the same ride as the Z1. The only difference that I could feel was a bit less stiction on the fox factory but the damping and rebound control are excellent on this fork and keep my bike glued to the ground over roots and loose rock and in the corners. I'm pushing these forks pretty hard and I've been impressed every time. If you somehow find yourself needing more from this fork, you can swap in the grip2 damper and you're still well under the cost of a newer fox fork and pretty much the only difference would be the kashima coating so all in all, I'd recommend this fork to everyone except racers who need to shave off another tenth and have oodles of money laying around.
Give this fork a shot and I bet you'll be happy you did.
Haven’t had a chance to ride with it yet but it feels amazing on the bike
I bought a Rocky Mountain altitude and it came with the bomber z1 at first I wasn’t sure about the fork because of bomber has died out of the years. I was quite amazed of the quality of the fork and how well it is ok the trail. They have done an amazing done an amazing job with this work and they will take anything you put them through. I highly recommend if your looking for a reliable fork buy the bomber zl1 170mm.
Bought this fork as a holdover for the new Fox 38 and I’ve fallen in love, the included grip damper uses the same ultra-slick oil as the grip2 damper and it just feels RIGHT. I have no real brand loyalties but I honestly thought this outperformed the lyrik ultimate. This fork might not cost as much as others but it’s honestly top-tier performance.
Last but not least, it also takes a coil and/or the Fox grip2 damper upgrades wonderfully!
