Riders have been asking for it, Marzocchi heard the call and has proudly delivered. The new Z1 Coil builds on the legacy of the single crown fork that started the revolution way back in the ‘90s – the O.G. Bomber Z1 Coil. Starting with the stout and proven 36mm chassis of the modern day Bomber Z1, the new Z1 Coil retains the renowned Grip damper but swaps out the air spring assembly for the most advanced coil spring system Marzocchi has ever made. At the heart of this new coil system is an ultra-lightweight tempered silicon-chromium steel spring (available in 4 spring rates to suit a wide range of riders) coupled with a noise management system for near silent performance, an integrated air assist for progressivity and bottom out control, and an external preload adjuster to dial in sag and firmness off the top. Travel can easily be changed in 10mm increments from 150-180mm (depending on wheel size) via included reconfigurable internal spacers.
Really happy I made the switch to coil, the difference is incredible.
I replaced my Rockshox Yari RC for this Fork and my goodness... I forgot how much I like coil over air suspension. This thing is smooth as butter over the rough terrain (my hands and forearms are thanking me) and it absorbs the larger hits like a champ. I understand that some people are very concerned with shaving ounces off their rig and prefer the precision of an air sprung fork for setting sag, etc... but if you're willing to give on those, then there is no reason not to have this fork on your bike. Like many with limited budgets, I have a one-bike-does-it-all setup. I do a considerable amount of park riding, but I also do a fair share of local enduro/xc and I have not noticed a significant sacrifice in climbing ability. My original rockshox was 160mm and I went with a 180mm since I am told the process of adjusting travel is about as easy as changing the fork oil... but after 4-5 local climb intensive rides, I do not see the need for a reduction in travel. Also in terms of spring weight, I weigh about 170lbs with full gear on and the standard medium spring is perfect, but check the spring chart to see what's right for you. Last thought - the built in bottom out resistance works fantastically. I was originally concerned that I would be more prone to a harsh bottom out with a coil fork, but after overshooting about a 7' drop landing this past weekend, the fork saved me from what would have been a painful landing or total wipeout.
As we all know, Marzocchi is owned by Fox now and this particular fork is a Fox 36 with a coil stuck inside it, but Fox certainly gave Marzocchi of the 90/00's a respectful nod by putting out such a fantastic fork under their name. This is top quality suspension that won't break the bank for people that still need to pay the mortgage at the end of the month.
I love my Z1 coil!!🤩 I was missing it, the feeling of coil!! I've ride a Jr T, and Shiver in the past. The where great fork, but this new Z1 coil is the next level! It's stronger, stiffer, and well built! The settings are simple but efficient. The ride is smouth in the small bump ride but if you want to send it, the Z1 Coil is perfect for agressive ride too it can absorbe anyting you throw at it!! The only limit it's you!!😜
Thanks Marzocchi for bringing back the coil!!!
I have been out of the MTB scene since the mid-2000’s when Marzocchi was at it’s peak. I just recently got back in to riding and was disappointed by the sea of air-sprung forks; all of which were no match to my fond memories of Z150’s and 170mm 66 RC2X’s. I went on a limb and ordered a Z1 Coil for my new hardtail and have been utterly amazed at how well it performs and it’s set-it-and-forget-it attitude. Take it or leave it; there is no substitute for a coil-sprung fork.
Best fork you can get for the money and out performs a lot of my other coil forks at half the price (push conversion 36, ohlins ttx coil fork, vorsprung coil lyrik and 36 etc). Overall great product and great customer service to come along with it. Only thing that could concern some is there is not as much bottom out resistance compared to some other forks on the market. Keep making great stuff!!!
