Not that long ago mountain bikes were simple – suspension opened up more terrain and, more importantly, it meant more fun. The original Z2 was there for the mountain bike suspension revolution –you simply mounted it on your bike and hit the trails. Less time prepping and fixing meant you could just focus on the ride. Twenty years later, that same DNA lives on in the new Marzocchi Z2; it’s ready to shred with smooth and plush suspension. The new from-the-ground-up Rail damper combines low maintenance with intuitive ease of use and impressive on-trail performance. The top-of-fork simple sweep adjuster from firm to open can lock out the fork or fully open the system with plenty of positions in between. The Z2 - it just makes everything easy.
Review is from an average trail rider on a GT Sensor. Experience with a rock shox recon rl and suntour epixon. This is my first mid range fork and I am very happy with it. Almost immediately, I noticed that carrying speed was easier and the bike is easier to control. The front end has greater traction while feeling pretty supple. Some hits from rocks and roots on familiar trails are considerably less. Add the ~300g weight savings over the recon rl and the bike feels more balanced and it is easier to pop the front up. I bought the shorter travel option and swapped it to the 140mm my bike needed due to covid shortages and impatience. Working on this fork is fairly easy if you are handy. I think the fork arrived with too much grease as the air shaft retreated into the uppers once the lowers were removed. So that might have been an issue had I not changed travel before riding. I cleaned up the excess grease and installed the new shaft easily enough. Set up is a breeze if you follow Marzocchi's guide, although I found that I liked a faster rebound than suggested. I know it says that rebound should be set to your weight but this heavy guy couldn't live with the rebound at 2. I set it to 5 instead. Will I wear out parts faster, idk? After 1 month with this fork, I am very happy with this purchase.
Quick delivery and exactly what I wanted. Was looking to upgrade the OEM fork that come on my bike and the Z2 has plenty of great features and does not break the bank.
I’m not an expert on suspension forks, I’m actually a noobie to all this. I had it installed on my 27.5+ Hardtail. Consistently for two years about twice a week, I have been riding my bike at my local trails with the original fork it came with. I ride all skill level trails. From greens to double black diamonds. The last 6 months or so I became curious to upgrading my suspension. After researching and asking opinions from other riders I decided to upgrade my front suspension. I chose the Z2. I’m happy to say that there is an incredible difference from the old fork. I most noticed it on a downhill ride. Before I switched, I was a bit nervous spending the money and not noticing a significant change. Well there is a difference and I am very happy and relieved I made a great choice. The Z2 feels like there is way more cushion and is quieter. Best upgrade I’ve made to my bike all year!
Before I bought the bomber Z2 I was riding a 100mm rockshox Reba. It was a decent fork and worked alright but once I got the Z2 I can never ever go back. The feel is amazing and with only 2 adjustments it’s super easy to find tune the fork just to me. 10/10 would recommend.
This fork is a steal! No nonsense and smooth right out of the box.
