The 2006 World Cup cross-country series ended September 9 ,2006 in Schladming, Austria.
Marie-Hélène Premont of Rocky Mountain Business Objects, equipped with Marzocchi Marathon Race, took the fourth World Cup win of her career today, and the second of the 2006 season at the World Cup Final in Schladming, Austria. Her victory solidified her hold on second place in the overall standings, behind world champion Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa of Norway (Multivan Merida).
Premont reveled that the race had gone according to plan. "Before the race, I didn't know how it will be. I arrived Tuesday and last night I couldn't sleep very well, because of the jet lag. But in the race I had a good feeling. It was my strategy not to pass Gunn-Rita early, because that makes less stress for me. My plan was to attack in the last lap and it worked. I'm really happy about that. I would like to have done it two weeks before!" (at the World Championships in New Zealand) A similar strategy worked for Marie in her World Cup victory in Mont St Anne ,Quebec earlier this season.
Marie Helene finished second overall in the 2006 World Cup Series behind Gunn Rita. Premont has now taken a podium spot in the overall World Cup for 3 consecutive years. This is a wonderful finish to a season for Premont with 2 World Cup Victories, a Bronze Medal at the World Championships, podium finishes at every World Cup race and her fourth consecutive Canadian National title.
